With over 70 years of history, television has featured dozens of horses that have earned their place as America's favorites. From Flicka to Fury, from the 1950s to today, here are some of the equines that have inspired us and spurred our imaginations.
1. My Friend Flicka (1955 - 1956) Based on a book of the same name, this classic TV show followed the story of a young boy named Ken and his beloved horse, Flicka.
2. Fury (1955 -1960) Featuring a wild stallion named Fury and his friendship with a young boy named Joey, Fury was set in the American West and devoted may episodes to youth organizations.
3. Mr. Ed (1961 - 1966) This classic comedy follows the hijinks of WIlbur Post and his talking horse, Mr. Ed. While Mr. Ed would only speak to Wilbur, the horse (as they have a tendency to do) gets into all kinds of mischief.
4. The Lone Ranger (1949 - 1957) One of the most popular shows of the 1950s, these thrilling adventures of yesteryear feature The Lone Ranger and his equally popular horse, Silver. And let's not forget Tonto and his pal, Scout!
5. Heartland (2007 - Present) Heartland is a modern TV show about a family that runs a horse ranch in Alberta, Canada. The show follows the family’s many trials and tribulations and the horses that they care for.
6. Yellowstone (2018 - Present) A show where the horses are more civilized than the people, one of our favorite parts of this terrific show is seeing all of the real-life equestrians making cameos (and let's not forget the magnificent Metallic Cat's appearance in Season 4).
7. Roy Rogers (1951 - 1957) America's cowboy, this popular show featured Roy and his beloved horse Trigger. We love hearing Roy's theme song "Happy Trails" at the end of horse shows.
8. Spirit Riding Free (2017 - Present) This popular animated show tells the story of young Lucky and Spirit, the wild stallion that she befriends.
9. The Adventures of Champion (1955 - 1956) Featuring the adventures of Ricky and his horse Champion, this popular show found a second wind in syndicated reruns as an after-school must-watch.
10. The Range Rider (1951 - 1953) Set in the American West and highlighted by plenty of scenes in the saddle, this fun show features a cowboy and his horse, Rawhide.
